Leadership Structure: 
MINISTRY TEAMS

Ministry's meet monthly to oversee and resource current activities in their ministry areas. Ministries report to the Council quarterly, lead their areas independently and are empowered to 
* set the goals and priorities for their ministry areas
* work creatively thinking "outside the box"
*recruit individuals to coordinate and staff events
work with staff, and evaluate staffing needs, to enhance ministry offerings in their area

 

Church Council

2008

 12 elected members plus the Pastor
This group leads the congregation and is responsible for general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation in accordance with the Word of God. Council members work with various committees of the congregation to accomplish the work of the church. This body also assists in reviewing and implementing strategic plans.

Administration & Finance Ministry  

Objectives:  To manage the congregation's time, talent and financial gifts.

Responsibilities: 
* Stewardship of resources   * Finance   * Property and Grounds  I
* Media Ministries (electronic communications: audio, video, lighting in the building)
 

Worship & Music Ministry
(WAMM)

 

Objective: Enhance God's message through music and liturgy
(This ministry plans all worship and encourages the joyful participation of all in the proclamation of the Gospel through Word, sacrament and music.)

 

Council /Staff Support: Pastor, Music Staff, and Council Member

 

 Responsibilities:  
* Help plan weekly worship with the associated ministry teams
* Develop choirs and associated programs
* Seek opportunities to add music and liturgy into the activities of the church including regular and special events
* Develop skits, plays and alternative communication media
* Creatively see opportunities to incorporate God's word and music with a fresh approach.

 

Empower to Grow

 

Objective: Provide spiritual growth to every member of the congregation by nurturing, inspiring and guiding youth and adults to lives of Christian discipleship and active participation in the house of God.

 

Council /Staff Support: Youth & Family Leader, Council Secretary, Council Member

 

 Responsibilities: 
* Youth and Family education   *Christian education/Library   * Bible study
* Small Group Ministries   * Inquirer/New Member classes   * Special events

 

 

Outreach

 

Objective: 
*Equip each member of DMLC to tell the story of Jesus Christ to our neighbors, become involved in the life of the Church, promote a "sense of belonging", and actively affect the community by reaching out and providing a positive spiritual experience.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE 
Worship Service assistants

SERVERS

ACOLYTES  

The youth in grades 6 through 9 perform this service as part of confirmation preparation. They light the altar candles, bear the cross during procession and recession, and provide other worship service assistance as required by the pastors.

 

ALTAR DECORATIONS

 
Individual members provide the flowers and candles used for Sunday services. A sign-up sheet is posted in the Narthex. Individuals may also assist with special seasonal decorations. Call the church office for more information.  
ASSISTING MINISTERS

 

Lectors read the Lessons of the Day, as well as portions of the prayers during worship service. They may also assist with communion distribution. A schedule and copies of the lessons are mailed quarterly to participants.
 

CHANCEL COMMITTEE

 
This most important area of service helps to prepare for worship and the sacraments. Some duties include:
--Set-up/clean-up for Eucharist and Baptisms,--Check pews for supplies,--Keep linens clean,--Make Dalmatics and Baptism napkins,--Change paraments and attend to candles.
 
CHOIRS   
Membership is open to anyone interested in singing or playing instruments. There is no age restriction.  Bring the joy of the Good News through song! For more information see the Music page.
 
COMMUNION STEWARDS  
   
GREETERS  
These folks reflect the personal love and care of Christ by the simple gesture of hospitality, welcoming all who attend Saturday or Sunday worship services.
 
MONEY COUNTERS  
Counters are responsible for taking moneys to the bank night depository on worship service days, retrieving the moneys for counting on the next open banking day morning and preparing the deposit.
 
NURSERY ANGELS  
DMLC teens and adults are available to help provide care for the littlest "lambs" during worship service.
 
USHERS  
The ushers prepare the sanctuary for worship, greet worshipers and distribute materials, assist visitors, assist as needed during worship and tidy up the sanctuary during after worship. The ushers are available during worship to provide help if an emergency arises.

CHURCH LIFE & SOCIETY
Special teams of volunteers to stage events such as the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Church Picnics, special dinner, Softball Team, and coordinating trips.  
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY  
DMLC individuals and families provide the labor for spring, mid-summer and fall clean-ups of a designated highway area thus serving our community and helping to keep it clean.  
CROP WALK  
Enthusiastic participation in this autumn event is a DMLC tradition, benefiting world hunger relief and our local food pantry.  
COOPERATING CHURCHES OF OCONOMOWOC  
Clergy and lay members of DMLC participate in this group which brings together area churches of all denominations. Information is exchanged and local ecumenical projects of mutual concern to all members of our larger community of faith are addressed.  
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY  
ELCA sponsors Habitat home projects. Your help for just one day a month is always welcome.  
JINGLE BELL DINNER  
This special holiday meal is planned jointly with our neighbors at St. Jerome's and offers fellowship to members and the community on Christmas Day!
 
OCONOMOWOC FOOD PANTRY  
DMLC members help coordinate and operate the food pantry so that all who need assistance may be served.  
PHOTOGRAPHY  
Camera enthusiasts snap photos of new members and record special events. New volunteers are always welcome.
 
QUILTING  
Meetings: 9am-Noon, 3rd Wednesday of each month. Volunteers are always welcome. Quilts made at DMLC through the year travel the globe to those in need, in answer to our call to action by Lutheran World Relief.
 
ST. BEN'S MEAL PROGRAM  
Once a month DMLC members prepare and serve a hot meal to St. Benedict the Moor's Meal Program in Milwaukee. This is an enriching opportunity for family fellowship, ministry and sharing! Help is always welcome with meal preparation on Monday or Tuesday, or transporting food to St. Ben's and serving the meal on Wednesday.
 
SPORTS/ EXERCISE  
Men's Dartball League meets Mondays at 8:00 PM from September - April.
Men's Softball League meets Tuesday evenings from May - August.
The schedule varies; check with the office.
 
WOMEN OF THE CHURCH  
The Women of the ELCA participate in mission and study programs, maintaining communication with the larger organizations such as Church Women United. They sponsor fund-raising and special events. Active circles: Mary, Naomi, Phoebe, Sarah.
 
YOUTH PROGRAMS (see Youth Page)

 

Assist with arrangements for appropriate supervision for outings, fun activities and devotions to promote the continued spiritual development of the youth (school grades 4-12). It also helps the youth coordinate and execute fund-raisers and service projects.
     The advisors work with the staff and Council to coordinate the programs, to seek assistance in developing a Youth Center within the church and to engender enthusiasm for a strong and expanded Youth program.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT
Supervise the upkeep of the church buildings, grounds and parking lots and to organize repair and maintenance projects. They apprise the Council of needed major repairs and secure bids and/or estimates for discussion and approval required to proceed with such projects.
 
 
PHYSICAL PLANT REVIEW  
A team of DMLC members inspects the church and associated facilities on a regular basis to identify maintenance issues and problems. When needed, professional advise is obtained. Job bids and recommendations for major projects are prepared for the Church Council and congregation for approval.
     When maintenance projects can be accomplished by volunteers, organize the work crews.

 
ODD JOBS  
Individual members volunteer for tasks from painting to lawn care, sanding to shoveling snow. Work is coordinated through the Property Management Committee.
 
CLEANING  
Major cleaning projects are accomplished by volunteer participation of individual members of the congregation working with the church janitorial staff and the Property Management Committee.
