CONGREGATIONAL LEADERSHIP and SUPPORTING COMMITTEES
Members of these groups use their spiritual gifts to help lead our parish daily and to plan for the future

CHURCH COUNCIL

2007

12 elected members plus the Pastor.
This group leads the congregation and is responsible for general oversight of the life and activities of the congregation in accordance with the Word of God. Council members work with various committees of the congregation to accomplish the work of the church. This body also assists in reviewing and implementing strategic plans.

 ENDOWMENT COMMITTEE  
This committee works for the prudent investment of endowment funds, promotes additions to the fund by members through estate planning, and administers requests for disbursements for the purpose of scholarship and benevolence.
 
EVANGELISM COMMITTEE  
It is the purpose of this committee to establish a dynamic membership growth plan, to encourage all members to take part in DMLC's programs and activities, to oversee an active homebound and hospital visitation program, and to develop a broader health ministry.
 
MEMORIAL COMMITTEE  
The committee processes requests for specific use of memorial gifts and makes recommendations to the church council for expenditures.
 
NOMINATING COMMITTEE  
This committee contacts congregation members for the purpose of securing committed candidates for Council elections.
 
STEWARDSHIP & FINANCE COMMITTEE  
This body promotes and reports the financial health of the congregation. They proclaim the call to all members to give to God what God has given to us through the design of an active plan for stewardship.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
As part of our mission to grow in the living faith we strive to provide high level, nurturing educational programs to children and adults alike.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMITTEE

 
This group reviews program needs and assists in planning all facets of Christian Education for the parish. It is responsible for ensuring that volunteers have the required support and assistance to create positive, nurturing and enjoyable learning experience for all.
 
ADULT BIBLE STUDY  
Meets: Sunday mornings between services from September to May. Informative and stimulating adult learning sessions are led by pastor or another qualified teacher.
 
CONFIRMATION  
This program of instruction is led by the pastor with the assistance of other qualified members of the congregation. Classes are open to 7th, 8th and 9th graders preparing for confirmation.
 
SUNDAY SCHOOL  
This is a program of basic Christian teachings and early Bible study is available to youngsters from pre-school through 9th grade from September through May.
     Students attend worship with their family and are dismissed to Sunday School after the children's sermon.
 
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  
This 1 week summer session offers a special time for fun and meaningful learning for the kids of DMLC.

COMMITTEES FOR WORSHIP SERVICE ASSISTANCE
Glorious and joyful worship is a long-standing tradition at DMLC. These important times when we come together to be renewed by Word and Sacrament employ the efforts and talents of the ministry of all believers!

WORSHIP & MUSIC COMMITTEE

This committee, led by the minister of music and pastor(s), plans all worship and encourages the joyful participation of all in the proclamation of the Gospel through Word, sacrament and music.
   Responsibilities include: selecting varied worship settings; educating the congregation regarding changes in worship; providing ministry to children; showing care for guests as well as members; and utilizing the musical talents of members of the parish.

 

ACOLYTES  
The youth in grades 6 through 9 perform this service as part of confirmation preparation. They light the altar candles, bear the cross during procession and recession, and provide other worship service assistance as required by the pastors.
 

ALTAR DECORATIONS

 
Individual members provide the flowers and candles used for Sunday services. A sign-up sheet is posted in the Narthex. Individuals may also assist with special seasonal decorations. Call the church office for more information.  

CHANCEL COMMITTEE

 

This most important area of service helps to prepare for worship and the sacraments. Some duties include:
--Set-up/clean-up for Eucharist and Baptisms,--Check pews for supplies,--Keep linens clean,--Make Dalmatics and Baptism napkins,--Change paraments and attend to candles.
 
CHOIRS & CANTORS  
This lively and dedicated group sings for the 9 AM worship service and for special services. They are always in need of voices, especially male. Members are from high school age up. Bring the joy of the Good News through song!
     Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 PM.
 
GREETERS  
These folks reflect the personal love and care of Christ by the simple gesture of hospitality, welcoming all who attend Saturday or Sunday worship services.
 
HANDBELLS  
The bell choir rings at some regular and at special services. Two intergenerational handbell choirs offer the young and the not-so-young a chance to share this important and unique music ministry. Participation in rehearsals and performances is a great opportunity for a family activity.
     Rehearsals are on Wednesdays
 
LECTORS/ ASSISTING MINISTERS  
Lectors read the Lessons of the Day, as well as portions of the prayers during worship service. They may also assist with communion distribution. A schedule and copies of the lessons are mailed quarterly to participants.
 
MONEY COUNTERS  
Counters are responsible for taking moneys to the bank night depository on worship service days, retrieving the moneys for counting on the next open banking day morning and preparing the deposit.
 
NURSERY ANGELS  
DMLC teens and adults are available to help provide care for the littlest "lambs" during worship service.
 
USHERS  
The ushers prepare the sanctuary for worship, greet worshipers and distribute materials, assist visitors, assist as needed during worship and tidy up the sanctuary during after worship. The ushers are available during worship to provide help if an emergency arises.

CHURCH LIFE
Beyond worship, education and mission activities, DMLC provides for the social needs of its members and the larger community. Through social groups and work groups, we have a chance to visit one another and to form closer friendships.

CHURCH LIFE COMMITTEE
Plans and coordinates activities for members of the congregation.-Activities for which this group is responsible include: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Church Picnic, Chicken/Fish Fry Dinner, Softball Team, Kitchen Committees and coordinating trips.
 
EVENT PLANNING/ EXECUTION  
The Church Life Committee works with special teams of volunteers to stage events such as the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and the Annual Fish Fry.
 
JINGLE BELL DINNER  
This special holiday meal is planned jointly with our neighbors at St. Jerome's and offers fellowship to members and the community on Christmas Day!
 
KITCHEN COMMITTEE  
This crew serves at Sunday morning coffee hour. They also assist when the kitchen is used for special events, maintain the inventory of kitchen utensils and supplies, and clean the entire area twice a year. Occasions made possible by the Kitchen Committee include: setting up and serving funeral meals as requested, arranging receptions for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Graduation, Confirmation, and other festive times.
 
PHOTOGRAPHY  
Camera enthusiasts snap photos of new members and record special events. New volunteers are always welcome.
 
QUILTING  
Meetings: 9am-Noon, 3rd Wednesday of each month. Volunteers are always welcome. Quilts made at DMLC through the year travel the globe to those in need, in answer to our call to action by Lutheran World Relief.
 
SPORTS/ EXERCISE  
Men's Dartball League meets Mondays at 8:00 PM from September - April.
Men's Softball League meets Tuesday evenings from May - August.
Mixed Bowling League bowls on Sunday evenings during the winter. Jazzercise classes are available at DMLC. The schedule varies; check with the office.
 
WOMEN OF THE ELCA  
The Women of the ELCA participate in mission and study programs, maintaining communication with the larger organizations such as Church Women United. They sponsor fund-raising and special events. There are five active circles.
 
YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

Members of this group plan and assist with arrangements for appropriate supervision for outings, fun activities and devotions to promote the continued spiritual development of the youth (school grades 4-12). It also helps the youth coordinate and execute fund-raisers and service projects.
     The advisors work with the staff and Council to coordinate the programs, to seek assistance in developing a Youth Center within the church and to engender enthusiasm for a strong and expanded Youth program.

 

YOUTH PROGRAM  
Youths in 7th grade and above can attend a supervised youth room on Wednesday afternoons during school year. Pool and other activities are available. Special outings include bowling, ski trips and other seasonal sporting are also offered.

OUTREACH ADVENTURES
Here are some unique ways to step outside DMLC's walls and explore the call to meet the needs of the greater community.

CHURCH & SOCIETY
Responsible for allocating the Lenten and Easter offerings to outreach missions as well as encouraging and organizing members of the congregation to participate in some wonderful local hands-on humanitarian endeavors.  
VISITORS COMMITTEE  
This group shares the grace of Jesus by their individual contact with homebound and/or hospitalized members. Visitors generally call once a month or more frequently. Initial training is provided. New visitors are always welcome.  
ST. BEN'S MEAL PROGRAM  
Once a month DMLC members prepare and serve a hot meal to St. Benedict the Moor's Meal Program in Milwaukee. This is an enriching opportunity for family fellowship, ministry and sharing! Help is always welcome with meal preparation on Monday or Tuesday, or transporting food to St. Ben's and serving the meal on Wednesday.  
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY  
DMLC individuals and families provide the labor for spring, mid-summer and fall clean-ups of a designated highway area thus serving our community and helping to keep it clean.  
CROP WALK  
Enthusiastic participation in this autumn event is a DMLC tradition, benefiting world hunger relief and our local food pantry.  
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY  
ELCA sponsors Habitat home projects. Your help for just one day a month is always welcome.  
OCONOMOWOC FOOD PANTRY  
DMLC members help coordinate and operate the food pantry so that all who need assistance may be served.  
COOPERATING CHURCHES OF OCONOMOWOC  
Clergy and lay members of DMLC participate in this group which brings together area churches of all denominations. Information is exchanged and local ecumenical projects of mutual concern to all members of our larger community of faith are addressed.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE
We try to faithfully follow God's command to care, not only for our brothers and sisters in Christ, but also for the place in which we gather in his name.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
It is the duty of this committee to supervise the upkeep of the church buildings, grounds and parking lots and to organize repair and maintenance projects. They apprise the Council of needed major repairs and secure bids and/or estimates for discussion and approval required to proceed with such projects.
 
 
PHYSICAL PLANT REVIEW  
A team of DMLC members inspects the church and associated facilities on a regular basis to identify maintenance issues and problems. When needed, professional advise is obtained. Job bids and recommendations for major projects are prepared for the Church Council and congregation for approval.
     When maintenance projects can be accomplished by volunteers, this group organizes the work crews.
 
ODD JOBS  
Individual members volunteer for tasks from painting to lawn care, sanding to shoveling snow. Work is coordinated through the Property Management Committee.
 
CLEANING  
Major cleaning projects are accomplished by volunteer participation of individual members of the congregation working with the church janitorial staff and the Property Management Committee.
