DMLC Book Club – Keep coming back!
(This page opens in a new window)

“The personal sketches and interviews made the book more relevant.”

 “I wanted to learn more.”

“The ending was just the way it had to be.”  “I didn’t like it.”

“This book has that same word that the last book had.”

“What word?”

“I can’t remember it now.”

“The one that means an erased and reused page.”   (The word was “palimpsest”.)

“I was afraid this book would be too earthy for a church group.” “But, the people in this book were so true to life, so real.”

Just a few snatches of the conversation happening at Books & Co. on the 3rd Monday of each month.  The DMLC Book Club sits in the corner at the book store, but we are not quiet.  Moms with children, Dad’s on a night out, singles, grandparents - all show up to discuss the latest book. Most have read the book or at least part of it.  Some have not, but want to listen to the ideas.  Some listen to the book on tape or CD; it’s easier on the eyes and a productive way to use driving time.

Here are the books we have chosen for the next several months:

April 21Forever Lily, by Beth Russell
When her friend realizes she cannot care for a frail Chinese orphan, Beth finds she cannot leave the baby girl behind. The experience of Chinese culture, along with her own dreams, help Beth to choose adoption.

May 19 - Thunderstruck, by Erik Larson (audio book available)
Larson tells the true stories of two men whose lives intersect during one of the greatest criminal chases of all time. Gripping from the first page, and rich with fascinating detail about the time, this story is splendid narrative history from a master of the form

June 23 - Memory Keeper's Daughter, by Kim Edwards (audio book available)
Twin daughter with Down Syndrome is separated from her family at birth. Praised for it compelling plot as well as its writing style, themes and characters.
