The Labyrinth:
Meditative Space in the Midst of the City

The word "labyrinth" can mean an intricate structure where it is difficult to find one's way, something like a maze. But a labyrinth for meditation is not difficult to follow and you can't lose your way. There is one refolding, continuous path from the outer edge to the center. In the center there is a spot to sit and reflect for a while. One returns to the world by the same path.
Labyrinth patterns go back as far as 4,000 years. They are found in ancient cultures, Christian practice and many native traditions. In modern Christian practice, the purpose of a labyrinth is to provide the walker with quiet reflection upon any issue or dilemma. Someone may walk the labyrinth regularly as a way of setting priorities for the week. Another may walk the labyrinth at special times, perhaps during Lent or when a knotty problem is causing anxiety. Many individuals make it a daily habit.
Hopefully, community member will use this meditative path to enrich spiritual life. Medical studies have shown that meditation can decrease stress and improve health. Prayerful meditation will also surely enhance our relationship with God.
The entrance to the labyrinth is located is located on Main Street just north of the church and  parsonage.
