Opportunities to Serve at DMLC

At DMLC we believe that members freely give of their time and generously share their many talents. Please take a moment to review a few of the many volunteer opportunities that are offered here at Dr. Martin Luther Church. We will periodically highlight different ministry opportunities throughout the year.

MEALS FOR MEMBERS

Meals for Members is a fairly new ministry at DMLC. We all need to eat and sometimes this can be difficult if you are recovering from an illness, surgery, birth of a baby or dealing with difficult medical treatments. Meals are usually provided once a week for our members while they are in need, and are scheduled thru our Meals for Members Coordinator, Lesley Kountz. Once we are aware of a need, the coordinator is contacted by the church office. She will then check with the family of any allergies, any likes or dislikes, number of family members etc. She will then set up a schedule online for our volunteers to review. At that time you may sign up for a given week. If you do not have the time to prepare a meal, gift cards can be purchased or possibly consider having pizza delivered. If you feel this is a ministry you might be interested in, please consider Meals for Members and give Bobbie a call in the office at (262) 567-3829 or send her an email at dmlcvolcoor@gmail.com.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Save the date! Vacation Bible School will be held August 1st through the 4th from 9:00 am – Noon. For more information call our VBS Coordinator, Angie Lewein @ (262) 567-5629 or email jesustakethewheel@hotmail.com.

USHERS & GREETERS

Ushers and Greeters welcome visitors to our church, assist in the offering and help as needed during worship. If you like welcoming and meeting people, answering questions, assisting visitors and encouraging others to be a part of the life of the church, you are invited to serve as an Usher or Greeter. We are in need of Ushers for all 3 services.

CHANCEL

Consider this area of service in preparation for worship and the sacraments. Some duties include changing paraments, attend to candles, check pews for supplies and keep linens clean. Set-up and clean-up for Eucharist and Baptisms. For more information regarding the time commitment or any questions you may have, please get in touch with Joy Shong at shongjc@sbcglobal.net.

GROCERY RECEIPTS

Piggly Wiggly stores in Oconomowoc and Hartland participate in the H.A.R.T. program. Save your receipts and deposit into the small basket located in the Narthex, or mail receipts to the church office. Proceeds will go to our Youth Account or Sunday School which is 1% of the total receipts submitted. Pick ‘N Save no longer offers the “We Care” program.

FLOWER AND CANDLE CHART

The 2022 Flower and Candle Chart is on the bulletin board in the Narthex. There are many dates available to honor loved ones and special occasions. The floral arrangements are ordered by the individual(s). Please take time to review the available dates as a way of honoring a loved one’s birthday or anniversary. A donation to the candle fund may be done by filling out the date on the Candle Chart and either mailing your donation to the church office or placing in the offering plate. Be sure to include your name, date and the occasion. Your donation to this fund goes toward the purchase of oil for the candles.

PRAYER SHAWL AND BAPTISM BLANKET MINISTRY

Thank you to our knitters who faithfully serve as the hands of God. At what may be the lowest point of someone’s life – dealing with illness, there is great comfort in a kind word, prayer or just knowing that you are not alone. DMLC offers one small comfort, the warmth and softness of a simple, hand-made blanket or “prayer shawl”. More than 10 volunteers have knit or crochet dozens of Prayer Shawls/Baptism Blankets, which are distributed throughout the year by our Pastors and Lay People as a way of expressing spiritual support and physical comfort for members and their families. Each blanket is accompanied with a card and the following message “May you feel the loving arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the thoughts and prayers of your parish family at DMLC, as you wrap this shawl about your shoulders.”

Thank you once again volunteers, for the sharing of your talents. We are blessed!!
