A Connection between your physical well-being and your life in Christ?

Scripture
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?”

I Corinthians 6:19

Message

There is a real connection between care for our body, our ability to continue deepening our relationship with God and our capacity to faithfully carry out God’s purposes for our life over the long haul. It is through our bodies that we participate in God’s activity in the world.  In some unexplainable way, God inhabits our bodies, making them a place where we can meet and know him in unique ways.

  • Oftentimes God speaks to us through our body.  Our body is the first to know if we are overcommitted, stressed, uneasy, or when we need to attend to something that is causing us pain or disease.

  • Have you ever been in worship and felt the desire to kneel?      Have you ever longed to curl up and be held by God?       Have you ever prayed with your hands open expressing a willingness to receive what God wants to give?        Have you ever had your moments of physical activity and exercise become prayers of gratitude and moments of consecration?

  • Have you ever felt God minister to your very human needs for love and meaningful connection through the loving touch of friends/family?

Going Deeper

How do you feel about life in your body?  Are you embarrassed about it?  Do you enjoy it?  What happens inside you when you consider the idea of honoring your body or meeting God in your body?

What is the condition of your body these days?  Have you been caring for it consistently?  Attending to medical issues and concerns? Is there anything your body is trying to tell you?  Any place of tension or discomfort that you have been ignoring?

Is there any way your body wants to pray right now?  Any way you could express  yourself to God physically? Notice if any of your spiritual practices might have some connection with physical activities that you enjoy.

How do you experience God’s presence through a greater appreciation for life in your body?

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for the opportunity to be on this earth.  Thank You for my body.

Please bless my body and use it for Your purposes.  Amen
