Topic: Answering a Higher Call.  What’s Your Purpose?

  Scripture
“I glorified you on earth by completing down to the last detail what you assigned me to do.”  John 17:4 (from the Message Bible)

  Message
I believe that our purpose here on earth is to live in a way that most fully expresses our divine nature.  God designed us to make a difference with our lives. It is through our special purpose that we discover meaning in our lives. We are custom-designed, one-of-a-kind, original masterpieces. There is only one “us” in all time, and our contributions are hidden in our gifts and talents, where we are and in whom we are, created and beloved of God.

  Food for Thought

What/Who do you live your life for?

Where do you spend most of your time and energy?

How do your answers to #1 and #2 relate?

Where does your faith fit in with the above answers?

Prayer
Oh God,

Help me to live my life with a sense of purpose and understanding of the calling You have given me.  Take away any discouragement I may feel and replace it with joyful anticipation of what You are going to do through me. I don’t want to waste time going after things that are not what You have for me.  Help me to know that whatever you have called me to do, You will enable me to do it.   Amen

My favorite quotes about purpose:

“Christ has no body now but ours.

No hands, no feet on earth, but ours.

Ours are the eyes with which compassion sees the world.

Ours are the feet doing good in God’s name.

Ours are the hands with which the world is blessed.

For Christ has no body now but ours.”  St. Teresa of Avila

“Just think, you’re not here by chance, but by God’s choosing.  His hand formed you and made you the person you are.  He compares you to no one else.  You are one of a kind.   You lack nothing that His grace can’t give you.  He has allowed you to be here at this time in history to fulfill His special purpose for this generation.” Roy Lessin

“Sometimes it may seem to us that there is no purpose in our lives, that going day after day for years to this home, office or that school or work is nothing else but wasted and weariness.  But it may be that God has sent us there because but for us Christ would not be there.  If our being there means that Christ is there, that alone makes it worth while.”    Caryll Houselander
