Topic: Once Upon a Time You Trusted Yourself: Buried Instincts?

Scripture
“Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I chose you.  Before you were born, I set you apart for a special work.”

                                            -Jeremiah 1:5

Message
Once upon a time, before society started to mold/refine you into who you “should” be, you trusted your own instincts.  Age ten was probably the last time you really trusted your instincts.  You didn’t listen to the opinions of others because you had your own.  You knew what you liked and what you didn’t.  It can be that way again.  In the following food for thought questions, try to contact the girl you once were.  She’s all grown up now.  She’s your truest self and she’s waiting to remind you how beautiful, accomplished, and extraordinary you really are.

Food for Thought
Find a photograph of yourself when you were about ten and place it somewhere where you can look at it everyday.  Travel back and see yourself at that time.  Where did you live? What did your bedroom look like?  Do you remember a favorite outfit?  Who were your friends?  What was your favorite subject?  What was your favorite thing to play?  What was your favorite book? What other things can you remember that you liked at this time?

Prayer

Dear God,
In this moment, I recognize that there is within me a true self.  A self that is not dysfunctional; a self that is not weak but strong; not limited, but unlimited; not small, but huge; not in pain but in peace; not faithless and scared but all-knowing, all loving, serene and calm and happy through Your grace.  In this moment, I desire to take up the mantle of Your magnificence.  Through Your grace, dear God, may I be innocent and strong and pure, for thus would You have me be.  I invoke Your light.  I step out of my childhood, into my adulthood; out of my weaknesses, into my strengths; out of my fear, into love, out of my small self, into You.
Amen
