Clarification About Spoofing Email
Thank you to everyone who reached out after receiving a suspicious email over the last couple of days that appeared to be from me, asking for assistance. While I was not the sender asking for gift cards, I appreciate that many of you were concerned enough to check if the plea was legitimate.
This confusion was understandable because I did recently ask for gas and grocery gift cards for the parents of our Waukesha Christmas Clearing Council families in my “Note from Pastor Clare” two weeks ago.
After learning about the spoofing email on Tuesday, Leanne Schmocker and I quickly posted a warning on Facebook and sent out another email blast detailing what to look out for. This was not a case of my email being hacked; it was a spoofed email designed to look legitimate, even including my picture. Unfortunately, many entities prey on the good hearts of others by mining data that is readily available on the internet.
On a happier note, all of the Waukesha Christmas Clearing Council gift tags have been taken off the tree! If you still wish to help, gift cards from local gas stations and grocery stores are always welcome for these families. You can place them in the basket on the table next to the tree, marked as an extra gift card, and we will ensure they are distributed to the families.
Please look at the rest of this email for more information about our special Advent and Christmas activities.
See you in church!!
