Milwaukee Art Museum
I was driving past the Milwaukee Art Museum this morning on my way to a conference and was excited to see the Brise Soleil open. The Brise Soleil is the massive wing-like structure that opens and closes like a bird’s wings. Our family had just moved to Wisconsin in 2001, and we attended the official opening of Santiago Calatrava’s addition to the Museum in October that year. The Brise Soleil never fails to impress me, and I’m always grateful when the wind is low enough to allow the wings to be open.
In 2019, I spent the day at the Milwaukee Art Museum with my chaplain resident class, where the only instructions we were given were to walk through the museum and record our reactions to the art that spoke to us. I haven’t spent much time in art museums, probably because I’m never sure of what I should be looking for. That day, however, given the whole day with no direction except to wander, I found myself enjoying the exercise more than I had thought I would.
I hope you find joy in unexpected experiences.
See you in church!
