Three Years of Fifth Friday Lunches!

Three years ago, DMLC Confirmation students began serving alongside our St. Ben’s volunteers on the first Wednesday of each month during the school year. St. Benedict the Moor states on their website:

St Ben’s is a table for the poor and those who hunger for justice. We celebrate "God Among Us" with all people.

I was standing with the Volunteer Coordinator and asked if there was anything more we might be able to do in support of the St. Ben’s Meal Site. It just so happened they needed someone to provide lunches when there is a fifth Friday that month. On Fridays, there is no hot meal served, but anyone can come and get a bagged lunch instead.

So, in July of 2022, we packed and delivered our first lunches, and have been doing it ever since.

This effort is sponsored by the Outreach Ministry Team, which was first led by Heidi Teuteberg. Since then, Vicky Brinkman has been the one who has made sure we had all the items we needed to pack 70 lunches. We always pack the lunches after the Wednesday night worship service, and there have been a wide variety of people who have assisted in that effort.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this effort to serve and love our neighbors!

See you in church!
